One of the most common questions we get asked is how to get your business found on Google.

This question gets asked in many different ways - but here are some of the most common ones:

Should we throw some money at Google for advertising so that people can find us? I'm now online - why am I not on page one on Google? When I type my business into Google I can find my website but I'm not getting any enquiries "I love the look of our website, but it does not seem to be bringing in any enquiries"

These questions don't have quick answers and getting found online is partly about how your website and other online assets are set up in the first place.

It is not enough to simply have a website or a Google Business Profile for these important online tools to work for you.

Your website and your Google Business Profile need to work together to help any person looking for your goods or services to find, understand and trust the services or products you offer.

Just a few of the many benefits of having a Google Business Profile working for you:

Enquiries are from people actually searching right now for what you offer You get a link to send to your happy customers to leave you a review Direct reporting from google about how many people go to your website or ask for directions to your business When you update your profile it updates in google maps and Google search results, providing a constantly up-to-date snapshot of your business

By the way, if you are wondering what your 'Google Business Profile' is, this is what was known as 'Google My Business, or GMB'. Yep. Another change which hopefully won't cause too much confusion.

Making your Google Business Profile work for you

First things first. Make sure you have created or claimed your listing. Check that your listing is accurate and complete, including photos, logos, operational hours, and address. Add Frequently Asked Questions to your Google Business Profile (not everyone will make it as far as your website) Check that your website is up to date with what you offer (no point sending people to your website if it is out of date) Gather reviews - so that you can build the trust factor for your business (see great example below) Add social posts to your profile regularly, just as you would in your other social media activities Explore some of the built-in features such as the ability for people to use chat from your google profile to connect with you and ask you questions, or put up special offers

While this may sound somewhat overwhelming, we all know that the only way to eat an elephant is one bite at a time!

Socials or Google Business Profile - which one is more important?

Each platform has its purpose and benefit, but the value of a google business profile is that when it is optimised correctly, it will show your business when people are actually searching for it.

Socials need people to be on the channel, and people don't generally search for businesses on social channels unless they already know about them.

How do I claim and optimise my Google Business Profile?

Claiming your profile can be done at any time and there are numerous articles on how to do this online.
