Web Team Adelaide recently helped tidy up the Furkids Funhouse website as part of a City of Charles Sturt economic support grant program.
Furkids Funhouse is a doggie daycare with a difference. Owner and Chief Cuddler Jo Grant created the small business in 2018, following the realisation that her furkids' health and behaviour were in decline because she was working and away from the house all day. Jo wanted the very best care for her dogs, so she decided to take things into her own hands and created Furkids Funhouse.
Web Team Adelaide reorganised Jo's existing website to highlight her point of difference - No force, No pain, No fear doggie daycare. This strategy helps to reflect the type of service Jo provides and to attract like-minded customers.
Following our recent work with Jo we asked her some further questions about her business and how her website works to enhance it.
What makes your business unique?
"We accommodate how dogs are feeling on any particular day. They may not want to play with their bestie or up for their usual games. We understand that we all can have an 'off' day so we make sure that we work with them. They may need extra cuddles from us or a little pampering. They may want to play with dogs that they usually don't. Or they may want a half hour siesta to recharge.
Whatever the reason, we pick up if they want something out of the ordinary, and we do our best to give them what they want. We treat the dogs as individuals as each has their own unique personality".
Jo mentioned that being able to make decisions on how her business operates was one of the most enjoyable aspects of owning her business, and overseeing that the dogs are happy and safe when their owners can't be with them.
What role does your website play in your business?
Potential customers can read about the ethos of our workplace and really get the 'feel' of who we are and how we operate from the profiles on our website. Our site reflects how playful our workplace is and how much my staff and I love dogs!
All of the information that people need to know is online - the costs, terms and conditions - everything is transparent which really saves us time.
Our website has also been refreshed, meaning the layout is a bit more user-friendly. Customers now have access to an online admission form which has freed up my time to do more of what I love... which is being with the dogs.
Jo's top tips for small business owners
Jo's advice is to "do what you love" as business can be tough and requires long hours, especially in the first few years. Jo suggested that having a three-year and five-year plan can really make a difference, plus putting in the hard work to achieve your goals. Jo's final word of wisdom is to look after yourself by taking the occasional break, it can definitely reduce the risk of burnout.
